MALDIVES
The Maldives Island is located in the clear, unpolluted waters in the middle of the Indian Ocean. The Maldives consist of 1 190 islands which are grouped into natural coral islands. The Maldives is an ideal location for your well-earned holiday away from the rush of big-city-life. If you are a connoisseur of peace and tranquility, there is nothing that surpasses a beach chair on a totally secluded beach of sparkling white sand, crystal clear wavelets lapping gently at your feet, a coconut palm swaying gently overhead, a cooling breeze blowing in from a clear azure sea, while there is nothing but a tall drink to pay any immediate attention to. If the urge to be slightly more adventurous overtakes you, a veritable garden of living coral in such variety of shape and color awaits you just under the water, with a bonanza bonus of colorful tropical fish and other marine creatures. All you need to do is dive or snorkel! And if you happen to want to be one with the sea, book yourself on a cruise vessel and go island hopping, fishing or simply sailing around. The islands are surrounded by shallow crystal clear lagoons enclosed by coral reefs. The unique islands provide visitors with one of the most breathtaking views of underwater life in the world. Formed above peaks emerging from the depths of the ocean, upon layers of both living and dead coral, and remnants of other marine life, the islands are generally covered with dense tropical vegetation. Coconut palms towering above dense shrubs and hardy plants protecting the shores from erosion are natural features in most Islands. The smaller islands and sand banks under formation are also wonders in themselves. These islands together embody living entities in various stages of formation, as interdependent elements in ecology, in a food chain where birds, fish, and other marine life co-exist, with humans at its apex as caretakers for centuries. The Maldives offers a variety of different accommodation – you will find something for every taste. However, a preference for absolute peace and love of nature is essential.

When to Go
If you're looking for a few extra hours of sunshine then you should visit the Maldives between December and April, which is the dry season. This is the high season, however, and resorts can be fully booked and prices are higher than the rest of the year. The Christmas-New Year period is the busiest and most expensive part of the high season. Between May and November it's still warm, but the skies can be cloudy, humidity is higher and rain is more likely.
Health
A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required from travellers arriving from infected areas. Cholera is, however a risk in this country and precautions are essential.
